How the shutdown hurt President Trump’s approval

With a temporary shutdown negotiated, President Trump is probably taking a look right now and what the month long, unsuccessful stand-off cost him. The answer might be more than he knows.

At last report, President Trump’s disapproval ratings were at an all-time high during the shutdown, rising to more than 57% of surveyed voters expressing disapproval of his job performance. Additionally, while only one third of surveyed voters blamed Democrats for the shutdown that cost millions of government workers their paychecks, more than half blamed the President and the GOP.

This, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll, which was conducted between January 18 and January 22, “surveying 1,996 registered voters. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.”

It’s possible this unprecedented shutdown will be a black mark on Trump’s approval ratings for the considerable future, but only time will tell.
